Naturally shaped European footwear, distributed across Canada.

Madrona brings Canada the European children’s brands leading the barefoot and minimalist movement: foot-shaped, flexible, and made to let young feet move and grow.

Madrona Footwear helps well-made European children’s brands find their place in Canada. Founder Kim Roberts spent years hunting down naturally shaped, well-built shoes for her own two boys, and kept hitting the same wall: a handful of brilliant European brands, and almost no way to buy them here.

Madrona exists to close that gap. As your Canada-based partner, Madrona handles the unglamorous parts, importing, customs, and getting your shoes onto the right Canadian shelves, so your brand lands here without building a Canadian operation from scratch.

Why Canada?

6.3 million children live in Canada, and every one of them outgrows their shoes several times a year. Canadians buy around 149 million pairs of shoes annually, yet genuinely European-made footwear is still rare on Canadian shelves.

Parents and independent retailers keep asking for naturally shaped, well-made shoes and struggling to find them.

That’s the opening: a growing market, real demand, and very little European-made product to meet it.

Under CETA, the Canada-EU trade agreement, footwear finished in the EU can enter Canada at 0% duty, where footwear made outside a trade deal typically pays 11 to 20%. Footwear is one of the categories where that saving is largest, because it carried some of the highest tariffs to begin with.

CETA cares about where the finished shoe is made, not where the brand is from. If your shoes are fully finished in the EU (not just designed or partly made there), they likely qualify. Madrona acts as your distributor and importer of record, handling the CETA paperwork and compliance, so your brand gets the benefit without setting up a Canadian import operation.

This is general information, not customs, tax, or legal advice. Duty treatment depends on the specifics of each product.
